What a WEEK

This week has been a BIG week over in my life and business. Have you ever had one of those weeks where all the good and all the annoying things happen at once?

This week I said yes to two huge opportunities, returned to a position with a non-profit that I had previously left for personal reasons, failed at a program launch because I lost focus, rehired my personal and professional coach for group accountability, AND had my cat need major surgery during one of the busiest times in my life.

I WAS OVERWHELMED.

It’s overwhelming just mentioning those things and it’s not even an exhaustive list!

When I say I know what it’s like to be overwhelmed, I mean it.

I also know what it takes not to drown. Sometimes that looks like putting my big Cheryl pants on and doing what I said I was going to do and dealing with the consequences. Sometimes that looks like eating some humble pie and admitting I cannot be all things to all people all of the time…or even some of the time.

Most often, it looks like scheduling downtime, self care, extra spiritual work and REST. Rest here is defined as “something that allows you to be present and de-escalate your nervous system”.

For me rest can look like the following things:

  • A literal nap

  • Going outside without a phone

  • Setting a timer and playing with my cats

  • Making/buying my favourite beverage

  • Setting a timer and playing Nintendo Switch without guilt

  • Moving things I won’t do well today to tomorrow or later

  • Eating a veggie or fruit

  • Drinking water

  • Yoga

…you get the idea. Rest doesn’t have to be “doing nothing”. It has to be something that replenishes your energy or allows you to feel reconnected with yourself, your purpose, and your hopeful creative centre.

Take some rest today and post about it in your stories. Tag me @thecherylfolland so I can cheer for you and maybe be inspired to rest in a new way.
